The flying Tourbillon

Passion on wings of perfection

Pocket watch with flying tourbillon and spring detent escapement

Passion that gives perfection wings the flying tourbillon

One of today,s most beautiful watches is made in a place where the passage of timeseemsto proceed at a more leisurely pace. Designed in the spirit of the great masters. Built with maximum precision completet in the desire to achieve perfection.

THE MYSTERIUM TEMPORIS TOURBILLON

This watch has been reduced and skeletonized to create an even more visible movement. In the oversized, large tourbillon carriage with a diameter of 18 mm, a balance with a diameter of 14.4 mm was installed. In terms of the diameter and size of the tourbillon, this watch represents a world record: The actual tourbillon itself is bigger than the half of the movement‘s diameter.

THE GOLDSTADT TOURBILLON

The masterpieces which Wilhelm Rieber creates require complete dedication, utter passion, the uncompromising pursuit of craftsmanship and a technology of the highest perfection.

The Tourbillon

Abraham Louis Breguet, the most brilliant watchmaker of all time, invented this mechanism around 1800 to improve the precision of pocket watches. The making of a tourbillon was however, extremely difficult and complicate.

My credo: Honesty, tradition, and down-to-earthness

Seeing the tourbillon in motion is an absolute symphony for the viewer's senses.

The Chronometer Tourbillon

Wilhelm Rieber succeeded in creating a watch of a kind never before seen in the entire history of watchmaking. It is the first wristwatch with a flying carriage and a chronometer escapement with a spring. The great challenge was to reduce the chronometer escapement to the dimensions of a wristwatch. To give you a brief overview of the dimensions: The escape wheel has a diameter of 5.59 mm – the mainspring is 6.66 mm long and measures 0.02 mm at its weakest point. A challenge that pushes the boundaries of watchmaking.

Wilhelm Rieber designs and builds wristwatches and pocket watches with flying tourbillons entirely by hand, in memory of his brilliant inventor Alfred Helwig and the outstanding master watchmakers of the pre-industrial era.

THE TRANSATLANTIC TOURBILLON

On the legendary crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Hamburg, Wilhelm Rieber has worked on board of the MS-Europa on this tourbillon.

The Schwingfest

Alfred Helwig celebrated a Schwingfest, when a flying tourbillon was set in motion for the very first time. Wilhelm Rieber continues this tradition in memory of Alfred Helwig.

Captain Mark Behrend at the Schwingfest of the Transatlantic Tourbillon Behrend

The Schwingfest of the Transatlantic Tourbillon took place on the open sea. For this exceptional watch, the degree of longitude, latitude, date and place were engraved on the back glass edge.

THE ANNIVERSARY TOURBILLON

250 years watches
and jewelry of the
Goldstadt Pforzheim

For this special anniversary event Wilhelm Rieber produced a pocket watch with flying tourbillon in pure manual work. An extraordinarily unique piece that is preserved in the Pforzheim Jewelry Museum for the eternity.

The book to the watch

Each tourbillon comes with a hand-bound and handwritten accompanying book. This unique book illustrates the fascinating creation of the tourbillon with pictures for the customer.

An individual box is manufactured by the traditional handicraft company „Josef Wochner – Exklusives aus Holz“ for each timepiece.

MENTIONED AT THE END...

Wristwatches with tourbillons are available in various collections from renowned companies. All of these watch components are manufactured using CAD technology and then assembled by selected specialists.

The master watchmaker

Tradition since 1793 – the obligation

A fine fingertip feeling, a sharp eye, an iron will and the contemplative work: All of this was garnered through Wilhelm‘s childhood. The watch maker tradition of the family Rieber has existed for 220 years now, and Wilhelm Rieber has propelled this with his fascinating works of art to new heights.

In addition to the production of his flying tourbillons, he restores and repairs mechanical and historical watches and clocks and is considered as a specialist for the maintenance of the precious objects for many owners of valuable collections and international museums.

It is a great matter close to my heart to preserve the old and historical masterpieces of watchmaking so that these watches can shine in new splendour.

Personal watchmaker of the Philipp-Matthäus-Hahn-Museums in Albstadt Onstmettingen.
